We were one of the first practices to have an optometrist who could prescribe medication to patients, and now we’re quite possibly the only independent practice in the UK to have all five optometrists able to prescribe.
By doing the qualification, all our optometrists gained more experience and a real depth of knowledge of conditions such as glaucoma, red eye and systemic problems, as well as pharmacology, anatomy and general medicine. It’s a huge learning opportunity, not just enabling you to get a prescription pad. You learn an awful lot in doing the academic work, and then actually spending the time at the eye hospital or in the supervised clinics is hugely beneficial to our patients.
