This week, we welcome the Optos California scanner to the practice, continuing our commitment to ensure we always have the latest technology available. We are the first optometry practice in Scotland to purchase this model, considered to be the most detailed scanner available globally.
We are only the second practice in the UK where patients can enjoy this hospital-grade scanner, providing the most comprehensive image of the eye. We hope this continues to provide great reassurance to our patients, knowing that we are using the highest quality technology, in the hands of experienced eye care professionals.
Ultra-high resolution retinal imaging is captured in seconds, showing up to 97% of the retina in one image (compared to 80% our previous ‘Daytona’ model), including the outer edges of the eye. This allows issues such retinal diseases, diabetes and retinal detachment or tears, to be confidently ruled out.
The improved software enables easy access to the images, which are displayed in a higher resolution than ever before, allowing the optometrist to zoom in even further to examine the eye in the greatest of detail.
Our optometrists are very enthusiastic about this new model. Perhaps even more so, because Optos is based in Scotland. Used globally, there is something even more exciting about the fact it was designed just over the Forth. And for any fellow eye enthusiasts out there, if you’re ever visiting the National Museum of Scotland, you’ll find an area featuring the earlier Optos scanners, an interesting display showing just how eye care technology has evolved over the centuries.
Are you due an eye examination? If so book in today and you can experience the clarity of our new scanner first hand. You can book online, call 0131 225 2235 or email vision@cameronoptom.com.
