Job Vacancy: Retail Optical Assistant

We are now looking to welcome a new member to our friendly practice. This opening is in the front-of-house team, welcoming patients, prescreening optical scans, assisting them throughout their time in the practice and some optical admin.

Location: New Town, Edinburgh, EH3 6SW

Hours of business: 8.30am-5.30pm, Monday to Friday

This position is full time but we would be happy to consider a job share with part time hours.

Key responsibilities

The practice is recognised across the UK as providing the highest, most comprehensive level of eye care to a wide range of patients. The practice prides itself on its high standards, stunning surroundings, patient-centered approach and expertise in a wide range of areas.

The main role will be welcoming patients to Cameron Optometry and assisting them while they are in the practice, particularly with optical scans. This might include booking appointments, arranging for collection of new glasses and selling them solutions and other products.

In addition, the successful candidate will support the optometry team in various ways, as well as having some responsibilities in contact lens admin.

The role is very varied and may also include other duties to assist with the day-to-day running of an optometry practice.

Person specification

  • Professional, confident and flexible, able to juggle various roles.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to engage with a range of ages and personalities, engendering trust.
  • Positive and personable, working as a supportive member of the team.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate complex clinical advice to patients as directed by optometrists.
  • Comfortable managing own workload in a busy, high volume practice.
  • Excellent computer literacy and comfortable with using technology.
  • Ability to identify customer needs and assist accordingly.

Training will be provided however any previous experience working in a front-of-house/ reception role, or within the optometry industry, would be beneficial.

Our home is a beautiful townhouse in the New Town and we have a comfy, spacious staff room and kitchen, and it’s a great spot for a wander on your breaks, either into Stockbridge or up into town. We have such a mix of personalities in the team, but all have a shared desire to help and care for our patients.
