Next up in our series of posts focusing on the technology we use is the practice is the Cerium Intuitive Colorimeter ‘Curve’, the very latest in colorimetry technology. Often when children are reluctant readers, it is that they find reading physically uncomfortable. Tinted lenses can immediately help make reading easier and less stressful, by removing this discomfort. Adults have also been shown to benefit from tinted lenses.

Using the Cerium Curve, a precision tinted lens can be individually designed using sophisticated computer screening and then glazed into your chosen frame. An examination with the Intuitive Colorimeter lasts about 20 minutes and enables the effects of hue, saturation and brightness to be explored before creating the perfect lens.

A coloured lens may, in some cases, help alleviate some of the following conditions:

– Movement of printed text

– Blurring of print

– Letters changing in size or shape

– Patterns in the print (sometimes described as rivers or worms)

– Halos of colour surrounding letters or words

– Tiring easily whilst reading

– Headaches or visual discomfort

These symptoms can also be a sign of other visual issues so if you or your child experiences any of these symptoms, please book in with an optometrist in the first instance. We may then recommend an appointment with our behavioural optometrist, or recommend we explore whether a coloured lens may help.
