After a year like no other, we are especially impressed by our optometrist, Rebecca Daly, who is one of the first individuals to have gained the NHS Education for Scotland Glaucoma Award Training (NESGAT). She is one of only 16 optometrists in the country who have now successfully passed.
Those who achieve the NESGAT qualification will have the skills and knowledge to best support glaucoma care in the community, easing some of the strain on hospital eye care services. This means that optometrists like Rebecca, are especially well equipped to manage patients who have been discharged from hospital following a glaucoma diagnosis.
Open only to optometrists who are independent prescribers, Ian Cameron is in the next intake, having recently started working towards the award. Knowing our optometrists’ passion for studying, and with all six optometrists already having the independent prescribing qualification, he won’t be the last to complete it.
