When most of us were growing up, it was simply a case of whether a child needed glasses or not. A short-sighted (myopic) child would be prescribed glasses, and each year they would likely require a stronger prescription until they reached their adult years and their prescription settled. Nowadays, children don’t have to wait for the inevitable. Myopia Management, also known as Myopia Control, is a way of slowing the progression of short-sightedness so that the eyes aren’t just left to get worse year on year, but instead, with special contact lenses, the myopia is managed.

Free consultation

If you have a child who is short-sighted, or you are concerned that they might be, we are offering you a free consultation to explore their options. First we’ll send you a questionnaire about their eyesight to fill out at home. Once an optometrist has analysed the results, we’ll get in touch to let you know if your child is suitable for myopia management. If they are, we will arrange a phone or video call with one of our specially trained optometrists who can discuss the options available to them. There are two types of lenses which can be worn, overnight lenses and daily disposable lenses. During the appointment we can answer any questions you might have and provide you with further information for you to go and digest and discuss with your child.

Please email myopia@cameronoptom.com if you would like to find out more.

You must live in the Lothians as your child will be required to visit the practice several times to be fitted for their lenses. Please visit our website for further information on Myopia Management at Cameron Optometry.
